Sometimes when I visit historic buildings I reach up a wall higher than most people can reach (i'm 6 foot 3 inches) and touch a part of the stonework. I like to think that I am the first person that has touched it since it was built. I feel it uniquely connects me to people and a past that I would otherwise have no way of reaching...like I am part of history, like I am making history.
Who knows, but it is fun...maybe not a white space...but maybe an untouched space.
